CLASS 9

HANDOUTS:

``High Murder Rate for Women on Job" and letter to editor on this article.

DESIGNING AN EXPERIMENT

DISCUSSION

Identify a member of your group who claims to be able to tell the difference between Pepsi and Coke. (Coke Classic, that is; accept no substitutes!) Design and carry out an experiment to test whether this is true. Remember that one swallow doth not a summer make: Don't certify your taste-tester just on the basis of one experiment. Decide exactly what data you will collect and what you will do with the data before you start collecting it. Also, remember the story of clever Hans, and consider the benefits of a double-blind study.

JOURNAL ASSIGNMENT

Read the article ``High Murder Rate for Women on Job" and the accompanying letter to the editor. Comment in your journal how you might determine the murder rate to be able reasonably to compare the rate for men and women on the job.

Homework:

Read Chapters 8 and 9 of FPPA and do review exercises 1,4,8,9,11 at the end of Chapter 8 and 2,6,10,13 at the end of Chapter 9. Hand in this assignment with your Journal on Thursday Nov 4.

Project proposal:

We would like you include in your journal on November 4 a brief description of your proposed final project.
